Hi Guys! I am Lauren, I am a second year Bachelor of Learning Management student, basically what that means is that I am halfway through my high school teaching degree. My discipline studies are in English and History, currently I am undertaking my second prac at a smaller school and I have a great range of classes. I teach a year 10 English Shakespeare class, a year 10 Ancient Greek Society class, and a Year 11 study of the Australian Identity English cast. Within these classes I believe that podcasts will enhance my learning experiences and also be a great tool for my students to create with. Bringing it into a more refined context, ways in which I could use the creation and implementation of podcasts in my classroom is quite simple but also effective. For the year 10 English students I could create a podcast channel that focused solely on the pronunciation of Elizabethan terms, as the teacher I could provide a word a day and then students would add to this with words they found troubling. Moving onto Ancient Greece and the students could create collaborative podcasts that told the stories of the Greek goddesses and gods. Using Podcasts as a support tool for the Australian Identity could be embedded into their assessment task, students are required to present a dramatic monologue- this could be done with a podcast over images, alieviating stress for students who find it hard to perform in front of their peers. Moving onto a broader scope of how I could use podcasting in my classroom there are certain things I think could be useful, i.e. as a reflection tool, similar to online lectures, senior students could use the weekly podcasts from myself to reflect on the key points of the week, in a history class students could be required to access a "Today in History" podcast segment which would set them up for the days lesson context and also provide interesting information. The use of podcasts is limitless and it should not be underestimated as a tool in the classroom, whether it be listening to already published podcasts, the teacher creating podcasts or students participation in making their own podcasts.
